Abstract
Demo abstract. Late-presenting elbow dislocations remain common where access to timely care is limited. This case documents the operative sequence and the two-year functional result.
Description
Pre-operative planning centred on identifying the ulnar nerve early and releasing contracted structures in a defined order.
A hinged fixator was used specifically to allow supervised motion from the first post-operative day.
Innovation / discovery
The rehabilitation plan was written before the operation, and the fixator choice was made to serve that plan rather than the reverse.
Surgical / procedural method
Posterior approach, ulnar nerve identification and release, anterior and posterior capsulectomy, LCL and MCL repair, hinged external fixation for six weeks.
Research findings
- A functional arc of motion was achieved and maintained at two years.
- No recurrent instability or nerve deficit was recorded.
- Pin-site care was the dominant follow-up workload.
