Abstract
Demo abstract. Sixty consecutive patients with single-level herniation were allocated to endoscopic or microscopic discectomy and followed for twelve months with ODI and VAS scoring.
Description
The study was designed to answer a practical question: does the endoscopic learning curve cost the early patients anything measurable?
Operative time, fluoroscopy exposure and length of stay were captured alongside patient-reported outcomes.
Learning-curve analysis used cumulative sum charting of operative time.
Innovation / discovery
Learning-curve effects were reported transparently rather than excluded, giving trainees a realistic view of the first twenty cases.
Surgical / procedural method
Prospective allocation, standardised anaesthesia and post-operative protocol, blinded outcome assessment at 6 weeks, 6 months and 12 months.
Research findings
- Early ambulation favoured the endoscopic group in the demo dataset.
- Twelve-month ODI converged between groups.
- Operative time stabilised after roughly the twentieth endoscopic case.
