Abstract

Demo abstract. Patients undergoing single-level posterior fusion were randomised to bilateral erector spinae plane block or standard multimodal analgesia.

Description

Primary outcome was 24-hour opioid consumption; secondary outcomes included time to first ambulation and length of stay.

Blocks were performed by a single anaesthetist to control technique variability.

Innovation / discovery

Time to first independent ambulation was used as a co-primary practical endpoint alongside opioid consumption.

Surgical / procedural method

Randomised allocation, ultrasound-guided bilateral block at closure, blinded outcome assessment for 48 hours.

Research findings

  • Opioid consumption was lower in the block group in the demo dataset.
  • Ambulation occurred earlier in the block group.
