Abstract

Demo abstract. Partial weight-bearing instructions are poorly followed. This device streams load data to a clinician dashboard for early corrective feedback.

Description

The prototype prioritised battery life and washability over sensor density, based on early user feedback.

Validation compared insole output with force-plate measurements in a gait lab.

Innovation / discovery

Reporting adherence as a weekly percentage rather than raw data made the output usable in a normal clinic appointment.

Surgical / procedural method

Four-zone pressure sensing, Bluetooth logging, validation against force plates, pilot deployment after lower-limb fracture fixation.

Research findings

  • Insole load estimates tracked force-plate values within acceptable error in the demo validation.
  • Adherence improved after patients saw their own weekly reports.
  • Sensor drift required recalibration at around eight weeks.
