Abstract
Demo abstract. Two hundred consecutive minor hand procedures performed under WALANT were compared with a historical regional-block cohort for turnover time and consumable cost.
Description
Case selection excluded procedures needing a tourniquet beyond the digital level or extensive bone work.
Patient experience was captured with a short post-procedure questionnaire.
Innovation / discovery
Intra-operative active motion testing changed the tenolysis and trigger-release decision in a meaningful proportion of demo cases.
Surgical / procedural method
Lidocaine with adrenaline field block, no tourniquet, standard procedure room. Turnover time measured wheels-in to wheels-in.
Research findings
- Turnover time fell substantially versus the historical cohort.
- Pre-operative investigation costs were largely eliminated.
- Patient-reported anxiety was the main limiting factor for case selection.
